While the Oscar nominated short films seldom stray beyond straight comedy or straight tragedy, there are the rare gems that defy such pigeonholes. So imagine my delight when this year’s “other” nominee in the live-action category turned out to the the other-worldly Death of a Shadow, a steampunk-infused mystery about the afterlife and the sacrifices we make for love.
And if you loved Christopher M. Walsh‘s Deathscribe 2012 nominee, “Comparing Notes at the End of the World” as much as I did, you should also check out this animated nominee, Head Over Heels, which shows us the lighter side of houses with upside-down spouses.
