Lovecraft’s “The Dreams in the Witch House.” The production opens November 16th, 2008, and runs through December 21st, 2008, at Chicago’s Athenaeum Theater, 2936 Southport Avenue. Adapted and directed by Charley Sherman, this chilling tale of cosmic terror features Sean Bolger, Kate Brown, Casey Cunningham, Ryan Patrick Dolan, Christopher Hainsworth, Carolyn Klein, Ron Kuzava, J. David Moeller, Thomas Whittington and company member Brian Amidei. WildClaw Theatre is very proud to announce that “The Dreams in the Witch House” will be presented in conjunction with the 85th anniversary of Weird Tales Magazine. Founded in Chicago in 1923, Weird Tales was the first fiction magazine dedicated to the literature of the fantastic, and launched the modern age of mass-media horror, fantasy and science fiction. For fifteen years, the Chicago office of Weird Tales was the cutting edge of far-out strangeness in the American consciousness, producing such classic icons of the genre-to-be as Robert E. Howard's bloody barbarian-king Conan and H.P. Lovecraft's tentacled cosmic monstrosity Cthulhu. It was also instrumental in launching the careers of countless writers, such as Ray Bradbury, Robert Bloch, even Tennessee Williams. Weird Tales editorial director Stephen Segal writes "We're thrilled to have WildClaw Theatre bringing a Weird Tales classic to the stage this year, the 75th anniversary of its publication and the 85th anniversary of the magazine itself. The fact that it's happening in the magazine's old hometown of Chicago makes the excitement all the sweeter.” The story mainly takes place in the legend-haunted city of Arkham, where a young student arrives to study geometry at the infamous Miskatonic University. He takes a room in the Witch House, a residence thought to be cursed, and is plunged into a journey across dimensions of space and time, bringing him face to face with unspeakable horrors. In continuing WildClaw’s mission of bringing Horror to the stage in an imaginative and intelligent way, this chilling tale of cosmic terror was the ideal choice for our second production.
